Turning Your Pool and Patio Area Into A Sanctuary

Posted by San Diego Landscaper on Wednesday, 29 July , 2015

If you are one of those lucky people with a pool in your backyard, you are probably very aware of the pleasures it can provide. The question is, how can you take your backyard paradise and transform it into your own private oasis? By adding landscaping and patio furniture to decorate the area, you can use your own personal style to turn your backyard into the private resort of which you have always dreamed.

Plants Make A Difference

Adding plants and flowers around your pool is an easy way to dress up the pool and patio area while keeping the landscape from looking neither plain nor cluttered. Flowers can sometimes look awkward by themselves, but placing rocks or stones in between them is an easy way to make the area look more complete while keeping it simple.

Plants will generally be planted in one of two ways, depending on how you plan on utilizing the space. Planting plants directly into the ground will give them a more natural look and feel, but this will also make them more permanent within your layout. If you are looking for a more easily changeable layout you may want to consider decorative pottery for some plants. This will give you the option of moving your plants around if you need to alter the layout or create more space for times when you plan to entertain.

One thing to keep in mind when picking out plants is that some plants can be both pretty and messy. You want to stay away from plants that will shed their leaves or petals everywhere such as impatiens, petunias and geraniums. If you want to add some color without the mess, crotons and zinnias can do so without shedding any leaves, making them ideal for pool and patio areas.

Patio Furniture

How you place patio furniture can have a huge impact on the look of your pool landscape. If you have outdoor furniture, pillows help the space feel welcoming and warm. Adding statues for your garden, candles and plants are also easy ways to help the space feel inviting without putting in much work.

If your pool happens to be located in an open area, adding a canopy over the deck or patio can make the space much more suited for entertaining in many different types of weather. Your outdoor plans will not automatically be canceled just because of some bad weather, and you can also receive relief from the scorching sun during those hot afternoons.

I must say that Juniper Landscape Company exceeded my expectations, completing the job in a timely fashion and for a fair price which we negotiated ahead of time, and which did not change even though there were difficulties with the terrain around my home in Stonebridge Estates (Scripps Ranch). Juniper Landscape Company was on-time,... Read More

I have a side strip of yard which is on the street. The original landscaping was VERY high maintenance and not attractive. Juniper Landscape Company has been fantastic. Before them, we ran through three or four other lawn and landscape maintenance companies who did spotty and sometimes outright poor work, were not always reliable and who ended up creating problems for us in a variety of ways. That experience led us to subscribe to Angie's List... Read More
