Time To Think About Organic Gardening

Posted by San Diego Landscaper on Wednesday, 30 March , 2022

As spring weather is here, it is time to start thinking about how you will expand your food-producing capabilities in your yard or garden in the coming year.  If you have never produced your own food, perhaps 2022 is the year to give it a try!  Organic gardening techniques are relatively easy to use and produce fresh, healthy food for your family from a surprisingly small footprint.  With the help of a good landscape designer, you can create an organic garden that will help your family stay healthy and give you the satisfaction of producing food for yourself and those you love.

What Is Organic Gardening?

The term “organic gardening” is a general one that covers several different aspects of horticulture.  Organic practices can be used to produce fruits, vegetables, herbs, and even flowers.  With the use of truly organic practices, you have the assurance that your produce, whatever it may be, is free of harmful pesticides and does not cause damage to the local and global ecosystem.

Organic gardening essentially relies on three elements:

  • Natural weed control. Instead of harmful chemicals, organic gardening practices utilize natural weed killers, as well as manual weed removal, to produce healthy, hearty plants.  These natural weed killers do not put chemicals or non-organic components into the soil, keeping it clean and nurturing for generations of plants.
  • Natural pest control. Rather than spraying your plants with chemicals, organic practices use non-harmful solutions such as certain soaps and oils as well as the introduction of natural species to control pests.  In many cases, the introduction of these elements not only prevents harm to the ecosystem but may actually improve it and make it healthier for desired plant species to flourish.  Furthermore, natural pest control practices do not harm species like bees that are necessary for pollination.
  • Natural fertilizers. Instead of using harsh chemicals to artificially fertilize the growth of your organic garden, there are a wide variety of natural fertilizers that can be used to grow healthy food crops and increase their yield.  These natural fertilizers work with the plant and soil chemistry to optimize growth and production.

Naturally, using all of these organic gardening methods takes time and effort.  One reason people still rely on chemical garden protection and enhancement is because it is easier.  However, the more we learn about the difficulties caused by chemical pest and weed control and chemical fertilizers, the more sense it makes to take the extra time and effort to use organic measures instead.

At Juniper Landscape Company, we are dedicated to helping our clients design, create and maintain organic gardens.  We can help you determine which plants you most want in your yard, as well as which species can produce the right amount of food for your family.  With our help, you can utilize organic gardening practices to produce healthy food for years to come!  Give us a call today to learn more about how we can help you design and grow the perfect organic garden.

I must say that Juniper Landscape Company exceeded my expectations, completing the job in a timely fashion and for a fair price which we negotiated ahead of time, and which did not change even though there were difficulties with the terrain around my home in Stonebridge Estates (Scripps Ranch). Juniper Landscape Company was on-time,... Read More

I have a side strip of yard which is on the street. The original landscaping was VERY high maintenance and not attractive. I was always out there cleaning up the leaf litter or be fined by the HOA. I hired Juniper Landscape Company. They came out and actually listened to what I wanted. They... Read More

Juniper Landscape Company has been fantastic. Before them, we ran through three or four other lawn and landscape maintenance companies who did spotty and sometimes outright poor work, were not always reliable and who ended up creating problems for us in a variety of ways. That experience led us to subscribe to Angie's List... Read More
