There are a host of reasons to have trees in our yards. From providing shade for us, a home for numerous species of wildlife, fresh fruit at harvest time, an increased curb appeal and a landmark for fantastic family memories, trees often play key roles in our lives.
But what happens when trees become sick? Would you even know it?
In this issue, we’ll talk about ways to tell if your tree is in trouble.
Signs That Your Tree is Struggling
Check the bark.
Throughout its life, a tree will replace old bark with a new layer. However, if your tree is showing no new bark, and areas where old bark has fallen off remain smooth, the health of your tree may be fading.
No leaves on the branches.
If your tree branches are bare when they should be filled with leaves, there may be trunk and root damage.
Look for fungus on the tree trunk or on branches.
A large fungus can be a telltale sign of internal rot going on with your tree.
How can I treat tree rot?
If there’s just a little visible damage to your tree, it may be able to be saved. Steps you can take include:
Eliminating excess moisture by using digging out mulch or excess soil from around the root crown;
Using high-phosphorus fertilizer (0-20-0 or 0-46-0) to stimulate root growth; and
Pruning dead branches to conserve your tree’s energy.

Juniper Landscape Company was on-time,... Read More

Juniper Landscape Company has been fantastic. Before them, we ran through three or four other lawn and landscape maintenance companies who did spotty and sometimes outright poor work, were not always reliable and who ended up creating problems for us in a variety of ways. That experience led us to subscribe to Angie's List... Read More
