Learn The Right Way To Bring Your Plants Indoors For The Winter

If you haven’t done so already, it will soon be time to bring your potted plants indoors. However, plants are delicate organisms and require a smooth transition.

In this issue, we’ll share advice for making things easier on your plants.

Why should I bring my potted plants in now?

Going ahead and bringing your plants in now will reduce the chances of them going into “shock” when the temperatures really begin to drop. Many plants lose a lot of leaves when going into shock.

How should I plan to bring my potted plants indoors?

There are a few steps you should take but they’re well worth the effort.

Give them a rinse.
A sprinkling of water will do wonders for brushing off the dust and getting rid of aphids and mites that may have jumped aboard for the ride.
Make the move a gradual one.
Instead of moving them indoors suddenly, let them stay awhile on your porch or under a tree and cut back on watering. This gives them time to get used to the lower light.
Give them a pruning.
Actually, you can probably cut them back by at least a third or they can get messy. By giving them another pruning just before springtime, you’ll be helping them to gear up for the growing season.
Give them light!
While you should definitely put your plants near a bright window, you should limit their time there each day. That’s because the window will act like a magnifying glass and generate even more light and heat.
