Landscape designing is more than simply choosing a number of plants and placing them in strategic locations. A good landscape designer understands that the right plants not only improve the look of a property but can enhance its special architectural features. At Juniper Landscape Company, we design with architecture in mind and help our clients choose plants that will work well with their particular style.
Just like contemporary architecture, contemporary landscape designs tend to be clean and minimal. In our designs, we often make use of concrete and hardscape materials to isolate “islands” of plants in square or rectangular configurations, and often add wooden elements to bring in an earthy tone. Water features are another way to bring in a beautiful contemporary feel to almost any space.
Transitional designs are some of the most flexible because we can bring in both traditional and modern elements. Many of our transitional landscape designs utilize hardscape to anchor the contemporary effect along with the softness and beauty of flowering or wandering plants to give a nostalgic feel.
Spanish/Mediterranean. Because of the strong influence of both Spanish and Mediterranean cultures in the San Diego area, many of our landscape designs incorporate elements of these looks. We often work with existing courtyards and walls, developing planting areas or bringing in plants in containers. The colors and shapes of these designs can greatly enhance the appearance of a culturally-inspired look.
Being so close to the ocean, we often incorporate “beachy” items into our landscape design as well. Utilizing shells, sand and other elements can help our clients attain the ocean-inspired feel that they want. Even if a client’s home or office is nowhere near the sea, we can still give them that quiet, tranquil getaway with the right landscape design choices.
Tropical plants have their own unique beauty, and fortunately, many San Diego homes and businesses are perfectly suited for a tropical theme in their landscape plans. By choosing tropical plants, we take advantage of San Diego’s climate and still bring in non-native plants that can thrive in this ecosystem. Tropical designs often feature bright colors and exotic choices that bring excitement to a landscape plan.
There is no rule that says you have to follow a single landscape theme, and many of our clients choose to mix elements of various styles to achieve the look they want. For example, mixing tropical, beach, and Mediterranean elements allows us to create an “island oasis” in a San Diego backyard, where the family can relax and enjoy the beauty of their very own getaway without traveling.
At Juniper Landscape Company, we care about our clients and listen to their preferences and choices for their unique home or office landscape. We want to help you design a landscape plan that fits with your architecture and enhances the curb appeal of your home or business. Give us a call today to learn how we can help you make your property look its best with landscape options.

I must say that Juniper Landscape Company exceeded my expectations, completing the job in a timely fashion and for a fair price which we negotiated ahead of time, and which did not change even though there were difficulties with the terrain around my home in Stonebridge Estates (Scripps Ranch). Juniper Landscape Company was on-time,... Read More

Juniper Landscape Company has been fantastic. Before them, we ran through three or four other lawn and landscape maintenance companies who did spotty and sometimes outright poor work, were not always reliable and who ended up creating problems for us in a variety of ways. That experience led us to subscribe to Angie's List... Read More
