How To Use Xeriscaping to Boost Your Curb Appeal

Posted by San Diego Landscaper on Tuesday, 24 October , 2023

In today’s housing market, curb appeal is very important.  How your home looks on the outside can not only help it sell faster but can also ensure that fetches top price when it sells!  Even if you are not interested in selling, increasing your curb appeal makes your home more enjoyable for you, your family and your neighborhood.

One easy way to boost your curb appeal instantly is to xeriscape your yard.  Xeriscaping adds value to your home and can also make it more visually appealing, particularly when your xeriscape plan is designed by a professional landscaper who understands how to incorporate water-saving features with other beautiful elements.

Sprucing Up Your Outdoor Spaces With Xeriscaping

Nothing about xeriscaping says that your landscape has to be boring!  Here are a few tips for incorporating beautiful, natural elements into your xeriscape plan that will be sure to add a “wow” factor to your xeriscape design.

  • Add raised beds to your garden area. Adding raised planting beds not only helps you control water usage and flow but can be an interesting and exciting design element to blend into your landscape.  These raised beds may be dedicated to growing organic produce, or they may simply serve as visual enhancements by housing your native plant collections.  Either way, they are sure to give you years of enjoyment and add textural interest to your yard.
  • Use native plants instead of water-thirsty exotics. One of the most basic principles of xeriscaping is to use plants that are native to your area.  These plants require less fertilizer, water and other supports to thrive as they have already adapted to your climate.  Because of their low maintenance level, they will ultimately require less in resources and prove to be hardier than exotic species.  You can find a wide range of color and shape among your native plants if you look carefully.  Visit local nurseries for ideas.
  • Irrigate creatively. Xeriscaping does not mean using no water; it means using water to the least degree possible.  All plants need some water, but choosing ways to irrigate that recycle and reuse water, along with plants that need less water than other species, can reduce your consumption and benefit the environment.  Choosing irrigation methods, such as self-circulating systems that offer recycling options, rain barrels that collect natural rainfall, and drip irrigation that targets roots, can all help you use less water and promote a healthy, beautiful yard.
  • Mulch colorfully. Mulch can be a lifesaver when you are trying to reduce water usage.  When combined with low-water irrigation methods like drip irrigation, good mulch can reduce your water consumption significantly.  Be sure to choose a healthy mulch that will last and build up your mulch to a significant level; most plants require at least two inches around their base to thrive.  Additionally, plan to reapply mulch on a regular basis.

At Juniper Landscape Company, we are here to work with our customers to design beautiful and functional xeriscape plans that have a positive impact on the environment but still create lovely yards!  Give us a call today to learn how we can help you design, build and maintain a great xeriscaped yard.

I must say that Juniper Landscape Company exceeded my expectations, completing the job in a timely fashion and for a fair price which we negotiated ahead of time, and which did not change even though there were difficulties with the terrain around my home in Stonebridge Estates (Scripps Ranch). Juniper Landscape Company was on-time,... Read More

I have a side strip of yard which is on the street. The original landscaping was VERY high maintenance and not attractive. I was always out there cleaning up the leaf litter or be fined by the HOA. I hired Juniper Landscape Company. They came out and actually listened to what I wanted. They... Read More

Juniper Landscape Company has been fantastic. Before them, we ran through three or four other lawn and landscape maintenance companies who did spotty and sometimes outright poor work, were not always reliable and who ended up creating problems for us in a variety of ways. That experience led us to subscribe to Angie's List... Read More
