Giving Your Lawn a Boost For the Fall Months

It’s hard to believe but the fall months are just around the corner. In this entry, we’ll share tips for ways to keep you lawn healthy and looking good during throughout fall.

Fall is a fantastic time for aerating your lawn.
If you let the spring slip by without aerating your lawn, fall is the perfect opportunity to get it done.

Remember, the main reason for aerating is to loosen up the soil and keep it from compacting. Even though grass doesn’t do so well in compacted soil, many varieties of weeds do.

Don’t let up with the watering.
While the somewhat cooler temperatures may make it tempting to forsake watering your lawn, don’t give in to the temptation. Your lawn needs the H2O to keep from drying out.
Fall is a fantastic time to overseed your lawn.
Don’t let the term fool you. Simply put, overseeding your lawn simply refers to planting new grass seed in areas of your lawn that have grown thin. It’s a very good – and relatively easy – way to provide your lawn with a bit more density and better color.
Your lawn goes to work in the fall so give it a boost of strength by fertilizing.
When the temperature begins to drop, your grass goes to work so that it can store nutrients, energy and moisture in preparation for winter.

Applying a dose of fertilizer in the fall sends nutrients straight to the deepest parts of the grass roots where they can be stored for the spring months.

Rake up the leaves.
While they’re great in piles for kids to jump on, leaves are really not that good for your lawn. When they pile up, sunlight is blocked from reaching your grass – preventing photosynthesis.

Remember, your grass needs to breathe. Because of that, we recommend you do a bit of leaf removal regularly – perhaps every 7-10 days – throughout the fall.
