A Canadian couple recently confirmed that a Palm Springs vacation gave them the inspiration for a more modern idea of the family pool. The idea they came up with eventually morphed into the Modpool solution, a wildly popular sensation that is quickly gaining in popularity.
We’ll talk about it in this issue.
A Modpool is the epitome of repurposing. While traditional swimming pools consist of a cement base dug deep into a homeowner’s lawn, a Modpool is actually a modified shipping container that’s been converted into a 20-foot or 40-foot-long swimming pool.
In an interview with the Vancouver Sun, Paul Rathnam says that while he and his wife, Denise, were in Palm Springs for vacation, they noticed something about the pools and hot tubs.
In the houses they rented, water from the hot tubs would invariably spill over into the regular pool.
“With the Modpool, we have our kids swimming around, and our eyes are on them – but we’re watching them from a nice hot tub with a drink in our hands,” he said.
During the interview, Rathnam scoffs at the ideas of homemade versions of Modpools, with people using a plastic lining.
“It’s not as easy as just painting (the container) and putting a plastic sheet in because of the corrugation,” he said. “We had to go to a chemist and have a lining chemically formulated.”
Each unit is custom-built, and takes about 8 weeks to complete. However, once it’s delivered to your home, all it takes is putting the Modpool in place.
In fact, once the Modpool arrives, you can be swimming in just a few minutes.
