In our previous blog entry, we shared tips for being smart with irrigation. In this issue, we’ll continue with that theme by focusing on the importance of a backflow preventer.
Backflow preventers are indeed important – so much so that they are required by the California Code of Regulations.
Any reversal of water from its intended pathway can cause drinking water to become contaminated. By far, the most effective way to prevent this from happening is the requirement for backflow preventers to water supply lines of a property.
There have been numerous instances nationwide in which people have been sickened because of backwater issues that other people have experienced in their homes.
Simply put, a backflow preventer is a one-way gate for water. These devices are crucial in all aspects of water on your property – whether you’re thinking of water coming into your home or in your irrigation and sprinkling system.
Ideally, backflow preventers should be tested at least once per year. You should receive a notice from the City of San Diego Water Department about 45 days before your testing is due. They’ll send a reminder roughly 15 days before the due date.
If there is no response, you may experience a loss of service.
There are many advantages to having all of your landscaping and water needs met by one provider. Chief among those reasons is familiarity with your system and it’s requirements. Remember, no two systems are alike.
Here at Juniper Landscape Company, we have fully trained and certified backflow specialists on staff who will be more than happy to install and test your devices.
