5 Common Landscaping Mistakes

Posted by San Diego Landscaper on Wednesday, 29 March , 2017

Learning from the mistakes of others is often the most valuable – and most affordable – ways to make sure you do something the right way. With that in mind, in this issue we’ll take a look at some of the most common landscaping mistakes by DIY-ers who surely were just trying to their best.

5 Common LandscapingMistakes

  1. Planting Without Planning
It’s one thing to be fired up about doing something in your yard. It’s quite another when you don’t take the time to think things through. Remember, some parts of your landscaping plans will be good enough to last for a season, while others – especially if they involve trees – will last for decades to come.

Don’t run the risk of boxing yourself in; take a bit of extra time to plan out what you want to do.

  1. Bunching Stuff Together
OK, while grouping your plants together is definitely better than installing single ones scattered throughout the lawn, it’s essential that you give them plenty of room to spread out.

Keeping them bunched up can also come back to bite you during droughts as the overcrowding will affect the plants’ competition for water and food.

  1. Putting Off Dealing With Weeds
Sure, weeding’s no fun but it’s an essential part of maintaining your landscape. If weeds are not dealt with, they’ll soon join in the competition with your other plants for precious food and water.

BTW, the best method for stopping weeds to put out a pre-emergent 3 weeks before weeds usually germinate. At the very minimum, get rid of them before they flower or else you’ll be dealing with a ton of seeds blown across your lawn.

  1. Not Sticking With a Color Scheme
Deciding on colors for your landscaping is very similar to decorating your home’s interior. Sure, green is a fantastic choice for your yard but variation is essential to a good looking lawn.
  2. Not Knowing When To Call a Professional
There’s absolutely no shame in calling a professional landscaper to help you out. With a qualified landscaper’s help, you’re sure to do things the right way – and that’s definitely worth the investment.

I must say that Juniper Landscape Company exceeded my expectations, completing the job in a timely fashion and for a fair price which we negotiated ahead of time, and which did not change even though there were difficulties with the terrain around my home in Stonebridge Estates (Scripps Ranch). Juniper Landscape Company was on-time,... Read More

Juniper Landscape Company has been fantastic. Before them, we ran through three or four other lawn and landscape maintenance companies who did spotty and sometimes outright poor work, were not always reliable and who ended up creating problems for us in a variety of ways. That experience led us to subscribe to Angie's List... Read More
